New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a report on the death of six patients at a medical college in Gorakhpur after their oxygen supply was stopped, allegedly by unruly junior doctors on Sep 4.
NHRC has sent notices to the state’s medical education secretary and Gorakhpur district magistrate after taking cognizance of media reports on the incident at Baba Raghav Das Medical College.
According to news reports, following the death of a patient, arguments ensued between the family members and some junior doctors.
“The doctors thrashed the relatives of the patient. When gathered media persons tried to record the statement of the family members of the patient with their photographs, the junior doctors thrashed the media persons too.
“Subsequently, medical services in the medical college were completely paralysed. Reportedly, the rampant junior doctors stopped the main supply of oxygen resulting in the death of six patients,” said an NHRC statement quoting the media report. [Source]
