“Gynecological disease” covers a range of conditions with a wide spectrum of lethality and chronicity and a substantial impact on women’s quality of life. Indian women have high mortality rates, particularly during childhood and in their reproductive years.

While women in India face many serious health concerns, there are a few burning issues like :Sexually transmitted diseases – HIV / AIDS, Syphilis, Pelvic inflammatory diseases (either acute or chronic), Genital Tuberculosis, Vaginitis, Cervicitis, Reproductive Health –  Infertility, Contraception ignorance , Nutritional status – Anaemia, Protein deficiency, Calcium deficiency, Menstrual Disturbances – Dysmenorrhoea, Pre Menstrual Syndrome, Disfunctional Uterine Bleeding, Menorrhagia. Because of the wide variation in cultures, religions and levels of development among Indian States and Union Territories, it is not surprising that women’s health also varies greatly from State to State.

Homoeopathic system of medicine; based on natural law, can combat sufferings of the woman at every important stage in her life. Hence a need was felt to see the effectiveness of homoeopathic medicines in gynecological conditions, through systematic work with the help of Repertories; Kent’s and Synthesis and comparison of the female genitalia for a better learning and to achieve the goal.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. To compare the Repertory of the Homoeopathic Materia Medica and Synthesis in their plan and construction of the female genital chapter.
  2. To understand the scope and limitation of these two repertories in Gynecological disorders in clinical practice.

SUMMARY
A total of 30 cases were selected for the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.   These cases were followed regularly and at the end of the study there were certain conclusions arrived at.

In this study maximum numbers of cases were belonging to the age group of 21 – 30 years of age. 30 patients were selected randomly to asses the efficacy of treatment in gynecological diseases through the use of information through comparison with Kent’s Repertory and Synthesis.  Statistical analysis is made to assess the efficacy with before and after treatment score.

In this study 73.33% cases were treated based on Synthesis repertorial result where 33.33% had 3 new rubrics present in synthesis, while 26.66% of cases were treated on the repertorial result of Kent.

Pulsatilla was found to be the constitutional in 26.66% cases while Sepia in 13.33% cases, Nat Mur in 10% cases. Lycopodium, Sulphur, Alumina and Phosphorus were found to be constitutional in 6.66% each and Tub bov, Lachesis, Staphysagria , Kali Carb, Cocculous Indicus, Thuja, Calc carb were found in 3.33% case each.

Out of 30 cases randomly selected 10 were improved significantly by the end of study.  15 were improving with decreased intensity. 4 out of 30 cases did not show much improvement. 1 case just dropped.

This result of the study conducted shows that both the repertories Synthesis 9.1 and Repertory to the Homoeopathic Materia Medica (Kent’s Repertory) are equally effective for the treatment in gynecological diseases in clinical practice.
