Abstract
Collagen diseases are systemic diseases affecting all connective tissues in the body. The most important of these is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is a generalized disease affecting the connective tissues of the body with localized involvement of musculoskeletal system. Rheumatoid arthritis is a clinical condition which affects 1-3% of population. It is a significant cause of disability and mortality, and carries a high socio economic burden.
The most common age of onset is 30-40 years. Recent epidemiological studies suggest that RA is seen all over the world with a remarkably consistent prevalence of 0.5 to 1% of adults. For the reasons that are still unclear, the prevalence in women is two or three times greater than in men. RA can occur at any age, but onset before the age of 45 in men is uncommon.
Along with the articular symptoms, RA has got some extra articular manifestations related to almost every system of the body. The most common Haematological manifestations and which are extra articular manifestations of RA are raised E.S.R, Anemia, Eosinophilia, Thrombocytosis, Neutropenia. The current therapeutic approach of early aggressive intervention appears to have mitigated the clinical course of RA resulting in less persistent inflammation, disability, joint damage and mortality.
Objectives:
1. To assess the Haematological Manifestations of Rheumatoid arthritis before and after Homoeopathic treatment in a clinical set up.
2. To assess the efficacy of indicated Homoeopathic medicine management of Rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods:
This study was conducted on the patients who attended the O.P.D, peripheral centres of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College Mangalore.
A total no of 30 cases were taken for the study, from both sexes group of 20 to 75 years, belonging to different socio-economic groups were The cases were selected for the study after the fulfilment of the well as exclusion criteria.
The Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and Haematological investigations.
The case selection was done by purposive sampling. Data was collected patients by interviewing the patients followed by a detailed case history, examination and Haematological investigations. Once data was recorded, symptoms was erected in each case which forms the basis of prescription.
The potency selection and repetition of the doses will be done according demand of the case. The cases were followed for a minimum period of 6 the assessment of effectiveness was done on the basis of clinical presentation Haematological investigations and paired ‘t’ test is applied to the data the results.
Results:
The statistical analysis such as distribution of cases according to age, sex, occupations were calculated and interpreted. For the 30 cases both constitutional treatment and general management methods applied and study was made and found that there is a significant difference in the Haematological manifestations before and after treatment and hence Homoeopathic medicine is found effective in the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis.
Conclusion:
This study provides an evidence to say that there is significant change in the Haematological manifestations which are extra articular manifestations of Rheumatoid arthritis, after the Homoeopathic constitutional treatment with the addition of properly planned general management. Therefore constitutional homoeopathic treatment with general management is effective in the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis. Hence there is significant change in the haematological manifestations of Rheumatoid arthritis before and after treatment and found Homoeopathic medicine is effective in the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis.
