Question of Emergency under the Perspective of Homoeopathy

To discuss the emergency – first we have to know the definition of emergency – a serious and unexpected situation requiring immediate action. This emergency may be due to accident or an emerged condition due to sudden pronounced disharmony in the system. According to the homoeopathic point of view other than accident it is one kind of acute disease  – temporary explosion o f latent psora , due to exiting  factors .

This emergency may be acute violent expression of chronic disease. This chronic diseases are due to chronic miasms (psora, sycosis  & syphilis).The true chronic disease developed due to suppression by  generations. So we can say in this way – every diseases have genetic predilection . When this disposition gets suitable circumstances disease develops. Body tries to express itself by signs & symptoms, that may be troublesome but the vital force always tries to clear off this situation but fails when there is miasmatic stigmata, without the antimiasmetic similimum remedy vital force is unable to cure the case or clear the disease proneness. But due to troublesome sign & symptoms (even not so serious ) patient or patient party becomes worried about it and goes to the non homoeopathic doctor to get immediate relief (actually it is suppressions ). This type of patient readily or frequently affected by the disease. Again suppressions (cyclical way) and the disease goes to deeper layer of the organism , affects the vital organ or organs producing pathological expression. That patient may come to the homoeopathic doctor but wants immediate relief, immediate relief by homoeopathy is possible but again the disease may reveal after few months by the same organ or other parts of the body. Again wants immediate relief, doctor also give temporary or palliative medicine, some doctor gives external or external and internal both or mixing of remedies puzzled by symptoms or fail to choose the right one(due to lack of knowledge) .By this procedure palliation may be possible, sometimes  they fail  to palliate by this method and the patient goes to the allopathic doctor and ultimately palliated by violent remedies. They may remain apparent healthy for the months even years. Again disease expresses by the more vital organs, then the palliation is not possible by the ordinary doctor , they have to go to the specialist doctor for palliation.

This palliative procedure starts from birth  and makes the patient seriously sick  at the old age or especially after 40 or when the vitality becomes weak,  this serious situation may come at any stage of life, depending upon the susceptibility. Any time emergency situation may come in chronic patient. Example—I had seen a patient aged about 55 years ,primarily who had some gouty and some other symptoms with uric acid high .First she visited the local allopathic doctor, the doctor given her Zyloric  and some  other drugs for different symptoms. The patient felt better for few months ,then again some new complains and  the previous old complains, patient did not discontinued the drugs given by the doctor,  again she visited the doctor, then after few medical test the doctor advised her to go to the specialist for better management. Accordingly that patient consulted with a nephrologists and followed his advice – most of the complain relived. She became happy with the doctor and continued his medicine for more than 5 to 6years .

Then  again some trouble with swollen foot ,puffy face, palpitation , uneasiness in the chest ,insufficient stool and many more.(as the patient party think it is an emergency situation to consult with  a allopathic doctor but I think it is an emergency time to consult with a proper homoeopathic doctor when the disease is driven into more and more deeper level by  the non homoeopathic treatment.)She again visited the nephrologists & after some pathological  test they told her that your kidney is not functioning properly , so they given  her another set of drugs & told her you may have to go for dialysis or kidney transplant. Again she continued the drugs and other advise as given by the then doctor.   But the patient was not  happy with this  treatment with so many troubles. Then she came to me for homoeopathic treatment. As the patient is uneducated she wanted immediate relief. I explain her it is impossible to give immediate relief with this complex case(natural as well as drug disease)with in very short time I told her it will take more than year(as the case is 8/10 years old),and you have to withdraw the allopathic medicine gradually(tapper off) . She had no such courage to withdraw the allopathic medicine according to my advice ,as the allopathic doctor told her not to stop  the medicine. She compromisingly wanted to continue both allopathic & homoeopathic medicine   simultaneously. She came to me two to three times, second time she told me she felt little better but worried about the appearance of some skin symptoms ,I explained about the relevant facts but her daughter is so worried (she things this very serious disease unmanageable by homoeopathic medicine) she took her to the private hospital of the Kolkata. Thereafter dialysis done for one or two times. Then she died. This is the tragedy of medical science. This shows that a simple medicinally treatable one sometimes becomes apparent emergency, one time becomes surgical due to iatrogenic cause. This is not an uncommon incidence but many cannot correlate the facts.  This is one side.

Another side ,many patients have tendency  to produce symptoms violently, sometimes vital force fail to manage the situation by its own ,here need is some short acting remedy to give relief but next time our aim should be to eradicate the such tendencies .In this serious situation (emergency) need immediate action – if the homoeopathic doctor is not so competent to manage the situation, here surest effective allopathic drugs with suitable dose may be given to save the life of the patient for the time being. It is not sinful or unrighteous because it was the emergency situation. That is exceptional. That should not be followed in every violent disease expression . Doctor must judge the situation with utmost knowledge & experience. Sometimes, patient even some doctor think 102 or103 degree fever or abdominal pain at night is an emergency and allopathic intervention is necessary or Mc Burney’s point tender(appendicitis) or Murphy’s sign positive(cholecystitis) needs immediate surgical intervention but actually it needs consultation with proper homoeopathic doctor& proper analysis of the case is urgent.(many so called surgical cases can be managed nicely with our homoeopathic remedy).

We have seen in our practice even the emergency case responded very quickly with our suitable homoeopathic remedy. It is a wrong idea homoeopathic medicine acts slowly rather it acts faster than allopathic medicine if we able to select the exact remedy, potency & exact dose.

When this emergent situation goes away we should think about the right homoeopathic remedy considering the totality of symptoms. Our aim should be avoid emergency – by means of avoidance of repetitive palliation, every child should be treated with constitutional homoeopathic remedy to eradicate or curtail constitutional dyscrasias.

But the emergency due to accident is not under the purview of homoeopathic disease idea. Here the vital force is not primarily   deranged by the disease dynamic . So the question of dynamic remedy comes late. It(accident) requires immediate effective, supportive, palliative medical aid.

So, we have to prepare ourselves with all medical knowledge to manage the emergency with confidence.

Our homoeopathic hospital should be equipped with all infrastructure to manage the emergency case. R.M.O./ M.O. should be trained with such emergencies. Every hospital must have few beds under HMO’s to manage every case with homoeopathic medicine. Practical orientation training program me should be framed out to improve the efficacy of homoeopathic doctor. By this way we can put our effective and dominant role in health system to make our Nation healthy in a different rational way.
