ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION
There’s a lot of mystique around the moon and how it affects humans — particularly pregnant womens You may have even heard that the full moon can trigger labor if you’re nearing your due date. After all, the gravitational pull of the moon is strong enough to shift ocean tides. It might also impact amniotic fluid, or so the story goes. Here’s how to separate fact from fiction with this popular belief as well as what other natural forces might lead to early labour or delivery. As you might suspect, there’s not a lot of study on the so-called lunar effect on pregnancy. In  2005 survey of just over 100 people at an obstetric clinic in the Midwest, researchers discovered that around 60 percent of people had never heard about the moon influencing pregnancy and birth. So, if you haven’t heard of this phenomenon, you’re not alone. Around 11 percent of those surveyed, though, did believe that a full moon could trigger labor On the other hand, a newer (but smaller) study found that over the course of a year at one facility and 8395 births, deliveries increased during the full moon by 14.7 percent. In different cultures and mythologies, the moon is related with fertility, pregnancy and delivery. Professional obstetricians also notice an increase in demand for obstetric care on the days when the moon is full, particularly in rural India. Hospital organization in rural region, which is already under pressure due to limited resources and demands, needs to allocate resources with regard to lunar phase may have detrimental effects. There are various studies done on population groups from different parts of the world, using different study methods to correlate delivery processes to the phases of the moon with contradictory results. We tried to find out any basis in fact which support these popular beliefs and to discover if lunar phases bear any influence on the distribution of deliveries among Indian population. Should there be any association between child birth frequency and lunar cycle, labor wards and emergency units should have adequate staff number and equipments in times with expected higher birth numbers.

AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the no.of pregnanat women got admitted for labour during full moon & new moon phases

 OBJECTIVES OF STUDY:

1.To assess the number of pregnant women have been admitted in hospital for labour  during    full moon

2.To assess the number of pregnant women have been  Admitted in Hospital for labour during New moon

METHODOLOGY:

  • Type of research: Descriptive Observational study
  • Study  Method : observational study
  • Inclusion criteria: No.of pregnant womens admitted in hospital for labour during full moon & new moon phases
  • Exclusion criteria : no.of pregnant women admitted in hospital for other complaints durimg full moon & new moon phases. Hospital admissions for labour during waxing & waning phases of moon
  • Materials: collected from Hospital A & Hospital B

RESULTS:
During research period it was observed 36 pregnant women were admitted in hospital for  labour during full moon and new moon phases, out of which 19 women have given birth during moon phases and rest of the patients for other complaints. Out of the 19 births it was observed 16 births were during full moon and 3 during new moon

There’s a lot of mystique around the moon and how it affects humans — particularly pregnant humans.

You may have even heard that the full moon can trigger labor if you’re nearing your due date. After all, the gravitational pull of the moon is strong enough to shift ocean tides. It might also impact amniotic fluid.

Here’s how to separate fact from fiction with this popular belief as well as what other natural forces might lead to early labor or delivery. As you might suspect, there’s not a lot of study on the so-called lunar effect on pregnancy

DISCUSSION:

During research period it was observed 36 pregnant women were admitted in hospital for  labour during full moon and new moon phases, out of which 19 women given birth during moon phases and rest for other complaints. Out of the 19 births it was observed 16 births were during full moon and 3 during new moon. The other 17 patients got admitted for spontaneous abortion, pre eclampsia, hyperemesis gravidarum.

So according to the study child births had occurred more on full more days than new moon according to old superstitions they believe that there are more chance/influence of child births during full moon but  it is not clinically/scientifically proven or agreed

CONCLUSION
According to the research only 3 child births have taken place on new moon day  and on full moon day 16 child births have taken place so according to the study child births had occurred more on full more days than new moon according to old superstitions they believe that there are more chance/influence of child births during full moon but  it is not clinically/scientifically proven or agreed and no correlation was found

With respect to previous studies same has been observed births taking during full moon are larger than new moon
