The Role of Patriarchy in the Evolution of Sepia

Dr Nicky Seth

To start with, let us first know the reasons why SEPIA PRESCIPTION has become so common in this 21st century?

  1. Hectic modern lifestyle
  2. Increased environmental toxicity
  3. Breaking of age-old dysfunctional generational traumas
  4. Change of gender-roles
  5. Identification of new roles and a purpose of life by women
  6. Disconnect from nature`s cycles

In order to understand SEPIA, we first must know the source of this REMEDY, i.e. the cuttlefish.

The cuttlefish being a creature that hates a sedentary lifestyle, they love motion/ movement. These sea creatures do not engage in forming social connections. They are aloof and are anti-social. Just like a Sepia personality, cuttlefish loves its own personal space. They are fierce, independent and may withdraw suddenly if they are under intense stress. When this cuttlefish encounters an enemy, it suddenly ejects its dark cloud of ink. This phenomenon interestingly is similar to that of a Sepia woman, the one who ejects doom and gloom when upset. They make their immediate environment dark and intensely disharmonious.

The similarities do not end here, because there is one more feature of a cuttlefish that can leave you astonished. The female cuttlefish do not turn back their heads to look after their own eggs. They are completely indifferent when it comes to rearing of and taking care of her offspring. This is why this doctrine of signature is so beautiful. We are so close to nature that we are bound to resemble the nature and nature`s part around us. Due to this theme of resemblance, we can see that a Sepia woman`s greatest threat is her own family and especially people whom she has to take care of.

Sepia state may arise in these types of personalities/constitutions –

  1. Women who are artistic, creative and intelligent.
  2. They are inherently independent (some emotionally, some financially and even spiritually).
  3. These women are aware of their own strengths and knowledge.
  4. Since they are full of self-awareness, these women cannot be suppressed/repressed or made to do things they do not love doing.
  5. Women who in their early age, had to take the responsibility of their family (either domestic or financial) and now have a masculine edge added to their constitution.
  6. Women who keep questioning gender roles, fight social inequalities and resist when asked to fit-in.

THE PATRIARCHAL EVOLUTION OF A MODERN SEPIA WOMAN –
The struggle against toxic patriarchy remains a significant social issue. The society today can be divided into two groups of women. Ironically, both can be SEPIAS.

  • The type who are afraid to break age-old generational rules of the family but at the same time resist the burden of responsibility.
  • The second type includes women who choose to remain hyper-independent, prefer having a supportive partner who respects her freedom and personal space or no partner at all.

The rise of a sepia woman against the patriarchy represents self-determination, resilience and breaking of age old generational norms. The life of every women revolves around domestic responsibilities, career goals, and societal expectations. For maintaining a balance in society, women and men were given their respective roles and in this process, both of them were somewhere suppressed. While the woman is seen as a caregiver, the man is pressurized for financial stability in the family. Since in this article, we are specifically talking about Women, we shouldn`t forget the induction of Sepia personality in a man (which, although rare, is also seen).

By this I mean the imbalance of Yin and Yang energies. Every person has the characteristics of both Yin and Yang but one single personality has the attributes of either one of them, i.e. the dominant energy of being either a male(YIN) or a female(YANG). However, we cannot deny the fact that Sepia did not exist 100s of years ago, it did exist and that is the reason we can visibly see the evolution, a type of evolution is rapidly progressing like a wildfire.

Sepia typically shows an imbalance in the YIN and YANG. The unconscious male begins to resurface in the female and vice versa.

THE EVOLUTIONARY ASPECT IN A SEPIA PERSONALITY –

The Reasons and effects

  1. Accept it or not, women are overwhelmed by excessive responsibilities. As the times progressed, girls were granted the right to education and the right to choose freedom. When education became a part of every girl`s basic need, they realized that they were missing out on a lot of things. Societal participation, politics, law, economy, literature, science and knowing more about their external environment. This is where was the genesis of the rebellion against various restrictive norms. The desire for independence and her disdain for monotonous domestic chores kept intensifying.
  2. Irritability when not being able to do what Sepia loves gradually progressed towards indifference. And this indifference was particularly seen for the people who were dependent on her like husband, children, family.
  3. Balancing societal expectations with their personal aspirations turned out to be extremely arduous task. With the society so rigid and ruthless, the fluidity in gender roles couldn`t be achieved rather it became even more difficult for them, i.e. managing both work and domestic chores.
  4. While some became chronically ill complaining about too much work, chronic fatigue, burnout and victims of Psychiatric ailments, few left the crowd to find their own identity. This group of women started rejecting the notion that their primary worth lies in their ability to manage a household and raise children.
  5. The second group of women started pursuing diverse careers, engaging with whole-heartedly in their ambition. Career and financial independence for them became their primary purpose in life. Even if they ever chose a partner, the partner must be supportive enough who could give her personal space and freedom to do what she loves.
  6. When child rearing and caregiving was pushed back from primary to secondary, we saw a rise in Infertility, Hirsutism (unwanted growth of male-pattern hair growth), PCOD, Ovarian diseases, trauma-centered responses, other physical and psychological ailments.
  7. The trauma-response also became a reason for Neuro-inflammation in Sepia females. We already know that trauma can also lead to changes in the structures of the brain like the pre-frontal, the medial cortex and the basal ganglia which are responsible for generating emotions. This is the reason why Sepia females carry the signature of its own source, i.e. the cuttlefish. They become apathetic, cold and indifferent to their own family members just like the cuttlefish who also have a complete disregard for her eggs once laid.

(P.s. Traumas do travel from one generation to the other, just like other hereditary diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, and so on)

The present Sepia women no mater they are on Sepia prescription or not, they are definitely paving a way for future generations. Not only are they reducing the domestic workload that is on women but also reducing the financial pressure that has always been on males.

Although the growing recognition and celebration of diverse female identities and roles indicate the fact that we are gradually breaking forth the outdated generational/patriarchal rules, but we have a long way to go. The triumph of Sepia will be seen when a Sepia will not need a Rx Sepia.
