Borderline personality disorder and homoeopathic management

Back Ground:
Borderline Personality disorder is a type of personality disorder with prolonged disturbance of personality function characterized by depth and variability of moods. The inflexibility and pervasiveness of these behavioral patterns often cause difficulties in maintaining relationships at work, home, and social settings.  Homoeopathic treatment is based on the totality of symptoms where our scope in this disorder is effective.

Objective:

  1. To study the evolution of borderline personality disorder.
  2. To study the effectiveness of homoeopathic remedies in the treatment of borderline personality disorder.

Methods:
The study group of 30 was selected based on purposive sampling method. This is before and after without control type of experimental study. 30 diagnosed cases were considered. The diagnosis was based on strong clinical history, clinical presentation and examination findings.

For the assessment of the clinical status before and after treatment the score was used which is mentioned in annexure 1 and‘t’ test used to calculate.

Results:
Out of 30 patients studied, the age group 10 – 20 and 21 -30 yr had maximum number of borderline personality disorder of 11 and 14. Fourteen cases had a history of being mentally abused and in most of the cases Staphysagria was prescribed as the constitutional medicine.

Conclusion:  Homoeopathic remedies are very effective in treating borderline personality disorder in all age group
