  • CASE 1

A Case of lumbar spondylosis treated with Homoeopathic medicine Calcarea fluorica

Published in IJRH

Authored by Ranjit Sonny, Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Under CCRH, Government of India, Guwahati, Assam, India

Case Report
A businessman aged 61 years, Hindu by religion, came for the treatment on 4th February 2017. He was suffering from CLBP for the last 10 years. X-ray of the lumbosacral (L.S.) spine showed lumbar spondylosis with osteophyte formation on the body of the spine. He took allopathic treatment for 1 month almost 1½ years ago without desired relief followed by no treatment for the last 1 year except regular morning walk. The modalities of the pain were aggravation from the first motion and amelioration by continued motion and pressure. There was relief from warm application also.

Homoeopathic generalities

A ) Mentals
Mentally, he was irritable. There was an episode of grief due to death of 35 years old son 2 years ago. However, that attack of grief was causing no severe affection to the patient. The patient had coped himself with that.

B ) Physical generals
The patient was fatty, flabby with big belly and dark complexion and short stature in height. Appetite was good, desire for sweet, salty food and meat. There was aversion to sour. Stool was regular and twice daily, semisolid. He had sound sleep. There were no significant dreams.

C ) Past history
There was a history of hypertension, for which he was taking antihypertensive drug prescribed by an allopathic physician. Anal fistula was operated 20 years ago.

D) Family history

In family history, both paternal and maternal, nothing significant was found. Other systemic examinations were normal.

E ) Miasmatic analysis
Miasmatic analysis of all the presenting symptoms, including mentals and physical generals, was done by referring to different classical books on miasms. It was found that this case is of mixed–miasm with syphilitic predominance.

F) Repertorisation
After case-taking and analysis, the characteristic symptoms were taken and converted into rubrics for repertorisation as follows:

  • Back-pain-lumbo-sacral region
  • Back-pain-motion-beginning of-agg
  • Back-pain-motion-continued motion-amel
  • Back-pain-warm-applications-amel
  • Generals-exostosis.
  • Generals-food and drinks-sweets-desire
  • Generals-food and drinks-salt-desire
  • Generals-food and drinks-meat-desire
  • Generals-food and drinks-sour foods, acids-aversion

Repertorisation was done following Synthesis repertory in Radar 10.0 on the basis of 9 rubrics. Phosphorus appeared as the topmost medicine, but Calcarea fluorica was prescribed by referring to Materia Medica.

The presenting symptom of the patient with modalities was more prominent in Calcarea fluorica in comparison to the other medicines, especially with osteophyte formation.

G ) Treatment and follow-up
After case-taking, Calcarea fluorica 30/4 doses was prescribed. The patient started improving, but no satisfactory relief of pain was found. Calcarea fluorica 200/2 doses was given in the next follow up. Pain in low back diminished, but after 5 days, pain slightly reappeared. 1M potency of the same medicine was then prescribed. Pain was relieved completely but after 15 days again reappeared. Calcarea fluorica was again repeated in the same potency.

That gave desired result and there was no reappearance of pain again. The patient was taking placebo for the last 5 months. In the meantime, X-ray of L.S spine was done, which showed remission of osteophyte which was present previously.

Before the last visit, he had travelled more than 1000 km by train even then there was no reappearance of pain

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Treated with Homoeopathic Medicine Calcarea carbonica: A case Report

Published in IJRH
Authored by Swati Pandey, Raj K. Pandit, Department of Case Taking and Repertory, Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Howrah, West Bengal, India

Case Report

A )Patient information

A 29-year-old female came to the Outpatient Department of Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital on 10th August 2019, with complaints of copious, purulent, white discharge per vagina, constant dull pain in the lower abdomen, low backache, fever and lassitude for 2 weeks. Initially, the patient had taken few doses of paracetamol for pain and fever herself with temporary relief. She was fat, flabby and whitish complexioned in appearance. She had a history of typhoid fever during her childhood and an episode of PID a year ago which was treated with allopathic treatment. The patient was married and had two daughters. Family history was insignificant.

B )Generals

The patient was short tempered and anxious. Her memory and intellect were good, but it took time for her to understand things. She was lazy and did not want company. The appetite was good with desire for mutton, sour and salty++ and cold things++ ( ++ indicates moderate intensity of the symptom). She drank profuse quantity of water, and the tongue was moist. The patient also had a tendency of profuse sweating even on slight exertion which was not offensive in nature and did not stain the clothes. Her bowel movement was regular, and the character of stool was hard and offensive. The patient usually preferred to lie down after slight physical exertion and the sleep was sound. She was susceptible to cold and her thermal reaction was chilly. Her menses were regular, but the flow was clotted and offensive.

C ) Clinical findings

Clinical findings were tenderness of the lower abdomen and purulent white discharge per vagina. Temperature was 99.4°F. Ultrasonography (USG) of the whole abdomen suggested PID. The case fulfilled the clinical diagnosis of PID as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2015.

D )Repertorial analysis

Repertorisation was done by HOMPATH Classic M.D. Repertory Version 8.0 software using Kent repertory giving priority to mental generals over physical generals and then to particular symptoms. After the repertorial analysis, Sepia was found to cover 10 of 11 rubrics and scored highest marks, i.e., 27. Both Calcarea carbonica and Sulphur covered all the rubrics (11) and scored 25 marks. After consulting Homoeopathic Materia Medica, Calcarea carbonica was prescribed.

E ) The indications for prescription were :

  • Fat patient with relaxed musculature, short tempered,
  • Full of anxiety,
  • Easily tired, mentally as well as physically,
  • Could not tolerate even slightest exertion,
  • Desire for salty things and cold drinks, wanted to drink lot of water,
  • Profuse sweat,
  • Tendency to catch cold easily and chilly thermal reaction

F ) Prescription

  • Two doses of Calcarea carbonica 200c were prescribed on the day of first visit along with placebo for 4 weeks.
  • The patient was advised to maintain local
  • The patient was followed for another 3 months, and no complication or relapse of the symptoms was noted during this period.
  • The modified Naranjo criteria (Monarc) was used for assessing causal attribution of improvement to the homoeopathic medicine and the total score was 9.

A study on efficacy of Calcarean phosphorica 200 in controlling the botrytis blight disease in Rosa plant

Published in IJHS Authored by
Dr. K Rathna Kumari Associate Professor, Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy MNR, Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Sangareddy, Telangana, India
Dr. P Pavithran Assistant Professor, Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy, MNR, Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Sangareddy, Telangana, India

I. Introduction
Agro-homoeopathy is alternative for chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture. There are many benefits of agro homeopathy. It include improvement in quality of soil , reduces fossil fuels consumption and pollution, economy savings and preservation of natural ecology, hence saves the environment. The environment will be green with homeopathy. The use of homeopathic remedies for plants was first introduced and practiced by Baron von Boenninghausen. When he the excess or leftover remedies into his plant pots, he observed effect on the plants. Charles Darwin who was biologist also experimented with homeopathic remedies on plants.

Rose is oramental plant. Different variety of plant pathogens could attack outdoor roses from time to time. Botrytis blight is a fungal disease which attacks dying tissue. It may also attack healthy tissue. Entire flowers are affected and produce a gray fuzzy mold. Botrytis blight is also called as gray mold. In this disease buds and flowers will develop abnormally and will turn in to brown color. Flowers will show irregular flecks and brown spots on it. In cool damp weather soft, brown spots appear on leaves, stem, and flowers. Sometimes the disease is observed as small flecks on infected petals. Because of wounds to plants when flowers have been cut or the plants have been pruned we can see more spread of disease.

II. Pathogen B. cinerea
Grows at optimum temperature 60°F and is favored by high humidity. Once the pathogen enters the plant through wounds it will form oval or one-celled conidia (spores) which in turn form in to a cluster. The pathogen sometimes also forms sclerotia (infectious propagules) which appear as black, flattened or slightly raised structures on the plant surface in early stage there are brown spots on leaves and buds, and spots of dark color on flower petals. As the disease progresses spots start showing grayish mold.

Calcarea phosphorica, is used for plants which are not responding to fertilization, shows slow growth and necrosis on the border of leaves.

  • Calcium strengthens cell
  • Calcium helps maintain pH
  • Calcium activates enzymes.
  • Calcium improves water
  • Calcium increases resistance to disease.

At the end of the day, calcium plays a role in making sure the plant develops and grows properly and avoids dying or withering too quickly. It’s very similar to the role of calcium in the human skeleton.

Phosphorus is one of the major plant nutrients in the soil. It is a constituent of plant cells, essential for cell division and development of the growing tip of the plant. For this reason it is vital for seedlings and young plants.

III.  Materials and methods
