Bill regarding the Allopathy practice by Homoeopaths passed by both houses of Mahrashtra cabinet yesterday. Maharashtra Government amended Maharashtra Medical Council Act….After one year Pharmacology training they may prescribe allopathy medicines.
For a state with a dismal ratio of one doctor to 1,900 people, allowing homoeopathy and ayurvedic practitioners to prescribe allopathic drugs — after some basic allopathic training — was a necessity and need of the hour, according to medical education minister Jitendra Awhad. He described the legislature ratifying the move as a “friendly handshake with doctors.”
“WHO guidelines prescribe one doctor for a population of 400. Where are our doctors today? MBBS doctors are busy studying for specializations,” Awhad told B J Medical College students on Monday when asked how doctors practising traditional medicine could prescribe allopathic drugs. The minister was here as part of his new initiative to interact with students of medicine across the state, over a cup of coffee.
“More than 6,000 ayurveda practitioners have been agitating and had attempted fast-unto-death to ensure they can prescribe allopathic drugs. Today majority of hospitals are flooded with doctors from homeopathy and ayurveda. Why not ensure they get trained in a year’s course in pharmacology and provide basic allopathic medication,” he asked.
Dr Dilip Sarda, president of the state unit of IMA said the day the bill was passed in the legislature was a black Friday (June 13). “We will wait for the government notification on the issue and file a writ in High Court opposing”it,” Sarda said.
Dr Mandar Ranade, national spokesperson for National Integrated Medical Association and others welcomed the passing of the bill. A section of homoepathic doctors on condition of anonymity said that it would, however, kill their science of treatment.
Delhi-based Central Council of Homeopathy said it will not allow homoeopaths to study allopathy as it was a different branch of medicine. The Maharashtra Council of Homeopathy felt the decision was forced by requirements of the medical system in the state. [Source]
It’s the right decision suggested by medical education minister Jitendra Awhad to ensure homoeopaths get trained in a year’s course in pharmacology and provide basic allopathic medication. The well established homoeopathic practitioners are not teaching the students in college.Rather they are generating revenue by seminars. Students pass out with very poor basic homoeopathic knowledge. Then how the CCH is expecting to explore the science without providing adequate knowledge to the budding homoeopathic doctors. It is also their responsibility to provide good education. CCH should not compel the homoeopathic doctors with poor knowledge to prescribe homoeopathic medicines. Then it is true killing of the homoeopathic system.
I welcome the passing of the bill which will be very helpful for the homoeopaths who are serving the public with allopathic medicines and are named as illegal practice.
Sir, If a homoeopath do practice in allopathy after studying allopathic pharmacy & and also homoeopathic practice then how can we say that it is suicide for homoeopaths or homoeopathy. Sir homoeopathy is surviving not due to increasing no of BHMS passed doctors, but by efficiency of the system which will always remain if person do.There will be worry for homoeopathic pharmacies of which business decreasing and of Degree holders allopathic doctors, because many homoeopathic doctors are doing good allopathic practice in many hospitals. This also prooved by the doctors working under NRHM all over india. I am in support of homoeopath who are doing good practice in homoeopathic system.
It is suicidal for homoeopaths to practice allopathy– for which Dr Hahnemann denounced.
Every system has its good as well as minus points. However Homoeopathy succeeds where all others fail. If any particular homoeopath or group of hom drs are not successful in their practice it is not the fault of the system but there lack of knowledge & experience./
Future of this system is not safe if allopathy is allowed to them. Its fate will be like that in other countries even Germany- where it was started.
I advise the folks to rethink over the issue & anomalies if any in hom education or practicals must be rectified. BUT DONT ALLOW THE SACRED SYSTEM TO PERISH.
