Jealousy ‘the green eyed monster’ and Homoeopathy

INTRODUCTION
Jealousy is said to occur when a person either fears losing or has already lost an important relationship with another person to a rival or competitor.  It can also be due to insecurity, betrayal or anger. Jealousy and envy have been commonly used as synonyms but they are distinct. Envy is typically experienced as feeling of inferiority, longing or ill will towards the envied person. It occurs when the person lacks a desired attribute enjoyed by another. Whereas jealousy is a reaction to the threat of losing something. 

The thought of jealousy may arise between couples, parents, children, siblings, colleagues or even animals. It is a very common emotion experienced at some time or another. But, when the intensity of jealousy deepens and begins to consume them, the consequences can lead to the damage of the person mentally, physically or both. 

There are many types of jealousy, namely:

• Romantic jealousy 
• Friend jealousy 
• Work jealousy
• Family jealousy 
• Pathological jealousy

William Shakespeare described jealousy as ‘the green eyed monster’ in Othello (The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice); his most famous literary work where the hero succumbs to jealousy when lago convinces him that Desdemona has been an unfaithful wife. In the end, Othello murders his wife and then kills himself. Pathological jealousy is also known as Othello syndrome or delusional jealousy. This disorder occurs when a person typically makes repeated accusations that their spouse or sexual partner is being unfaithful based on insignificant, minimal or no evidence.

LACHESIS MUTUS

Jealousy in lachesis is intense and is mainly of sexual jealousy. Emotions are strong and thus the attachment is stronger between the individuals. Love can turn into hate due to jealousy. The other person becomes a pleasurable object and when he falls in love with this pleasurable object, jealousy is intense. It leads to extreme anger and they verbally hurt the other. When they have them at their mercy their anger is intense, as if they have a desire to put the knife in and give it a twist for extra pleasure. Jealousy leads to suspiciousness and then finally ends up being insane. 

Physical symptoms due to jealousy:

• Constriction around the neck and chest
• Feels bloated 
• Premenstrual symptoms and disturbance during menopause
• Anxiety, fear of heart disease

HYOSCYAMUS NIGER
Jealousy in hyoscyamus is defined as morbid or pathological jealousy. It is mainly due to fear of loss i.e. loss of loved ones or loved things. Jealousy is associated with grief. The jealousy is so powerful that they express in the form of rage and violent outbursts. They behave rashly, dominating, biting, kicking, screaming and exposing. They become suspicious and maniacal, which is mainly lascivious. Thinks you are trying to poison him or thinks some plot is being laid against him. Thus, becomes suspicious of food and drinks. Jealousy in children, with a desire to kill.  Hyoscyamus is very similar to Lachesis especially in sexual jealousy, suspiciousness, loquacity and insanity.

NUX VOMICA

Nux vomica is one of the ambitious remedies. The jealousy in nux is due to disappointed ambition. He is jealous of his colleagues or partners. He is very competitive and a workaholic. He cannot digest to see his colleagues reach a higher place when he has worked too hard for it. He cannot stand the pressure thus liable to bouts of irritability, quarrels, scolds, abuses, insults and reproaches. Indulges himself in alcohol, food and sex. Malicious jealousy, desire to kill others and also commit suicide. Nux does not commit suicide until he has the strong impulse. He either jumps from a height or shoots himself with a gun.

APIS MELLIFICA

Apis women are very concern and protective about their security, family, relationship, home and loved ones. If anyone threatens these, they will be ready to sting back especially when stung by jealousy. Sexual passion is too strong in apis. Jealousy due to sexual cause. Foolishly suspicious and jealous.  In love relationship, apis women are suspicious that they will lose their partner to other women. Insecure about her partner. She observers her partners flirtatious behaviour and doesn’t react. But the poison of jealously begins to consume them. Slowly they burst out in a fit of angry that will hurt the other person deeply. Regrets and feels awkward. After several explosions, the sexual desire is suppressed which later leads to ovarian cysts, tumours and cystitis.

Violent behaviour when jealous. Uncontrolled explosions during jealousy. They just don’t have the desire to kill, they instead kill the person. Causeless jealousy. Sibling jealousy.

PULSATILLA PRATENSIS

The pulsatilla child is jealous when her parents favor her friends or other kids. She gets jealous if anyone spends time with her parents or her best friend. When she is jealous, behaves sulky, annoys or offends them and also her loved ones. Sibling jealousy is seen in pulsatilla. Envious. Where she may behave weird if her sibling is given more attention. She breaks her sibling’s toy if it is nicer than her or refuses to eat lunch.

MEDORRHINUM 

Medorrhinum is possessive over one parent and they become jealous when other is around. They can be jealous of anyone, especially one those who are better than him or who threatens his future position. They get confused and anxious.
