Boericke’s Materia medica is one of the most used materia medicas which contains more than 1400 remedies described in compact volume. Its 9th edition was first published in 1901. In the mean while there is no change in number of drugs but there is a lot of change in terminology as the medical science has evolved drastically over years. Most of us face difficulty in understanding some words and phrases of Boericke’s materia medica.
There is some difficult, obsolete Medical and English terminology, foreign language, homoeopathic terms which needs dictionary referral. One has to keep three different types of dictionaries while reading the subject. That results in loss of time and deviation from subject.
To facilitate such students and homeopaths, Dr.Shashi Kiran Aarani, a third generation homoeopath, Hyderabad (A.P) has done a three years of literary research on Boericke’s materia medica and compiled a glossary named “ SHASHI KIRAN’S GLOSSARY – A LITERARY RESEARCH ON BOERICKE MATERIA MEDICA” which contains 1708 target words with simple explanation .
