The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences on Wednesday disaffiliated Nagpur College of Homoeopathy on account of several complaints against it. The academic council of Nashik-based university decided this in its meeting presided over by vice-chancellor Dr Arun Jamkar, sources said.
Jamkar told TOI that they had taken a decision to disaffiliate about 15 colleges whose staff strength is under 60% since many years. However, he declined to confirm that Nagpur College of Homoeopathy was among them. “It’s difficult to remember names,” he said before directing the enquiries towards registrar Dr Adinath Suryakar. Suryakar did not take the calls. University PRO Swapnil Torney informed that MUHS had started taking stringent action against erring colleges. Only last month they had disaffiliated 70 institutes, he said but he too failed to confirm Nagpur College of Homoeopathy’s name.
Sources however stated that the step was taken after several complaints received by MUHS against the college management led by Ghanshayamdas Panpalia. It includes serious ones like corruption, misdeeds and even sexual exploitation. TOI had many times highlighted irregularities in the said college. Even a court case was filed against the management for irregularities. MUHS had issued a notice to the college management in June. The action came after the college failed to respond satisfactorily and also failed to fill up vacant posts.
