KOZHIKODE: The peripheral homoeopathic out-patient units, conceptualised by the District Homeopathic Department, are all set to go functional at Ulliyeri and Payyanakkal.
DMO Dr Kavitha says the clinics will be thrown open to the public in the current financial year. “The agreements between the department and the panchayats have already been signed and the building construction works are nearing completion in the two panchayats,” says Kavitha.
Besides, two more units at Kodiyathur and Payyanakkal have got sanction from the State Homeopathic Department as per the proposal submitted by the district homoeopathic authorities.
“Though the flow of patients to the homoeopathic dispensaries across the district shows an upward trend, they remain, to some extent, inaccessible to the rural public.
“This issue will be solved when the peripheral clinics come into existence. Treatment will be easily accessible to the patients hailing from the rural areas,” says Kavitha.
According to Dr Premachandran, medical officer and Ayush Scheme coordinator, the project is being implemented as a joint venture of the State Homoeopathy Department and the local self-governing body.
The department will allocate `1 lakh for each unit, for medicine, furniture and other essential equipment, while the panchayat authorities will ensure basic infrastructure, including building and other amenities.
Meanwhile, the figures with the Homoeopathy Department show that the outpatient unit, which was set up at Kurumboyil in Mankayam panchayat is evoking a good response from the patients.
The DMO says the department is looking to start such units in more panchayats across the district in a bid to extend services to more rural areas.
“The department has identified Thiruvallur, Vattachira, Payyanakkal, Narikkuni, Chathamangalam, Nambrothukara, Kakkavayal, Kattippara and Atholi as ideal places to set up peripheral units.
“Seeking technical sanction and financial support, a detailed proposal will be soon submitted to the officials concerned,” she says. [Source]
