Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has suspended Dr AL Patil, principal of Government Homeopathic Medical College over irregularities in the college. The suspension came after a complaint was registered by a fellow lecturer from the department of anatomy of the college, following which a fact-finding committee found several irregularities resulting in a suspension letter being issued by the health department and RGUHS.
He has been found guilty of promoting teachers who did not have sufficient experience, thus scuttling the academic career of a fellow faculty. He also allegedly designated a part-time faculty as a guide for postgraduate students knowing fully well that it was against the law. He did this by issuing orders and letters that created the impression that were being issued by the Government of Karnataka, according to a notice issued to him.
He had no regard for orders and directions of the government and RGUHS and this has affected the future of his students. A detailed report in this regard was sent to the state health and family welfare department, which concluded that he has violated rules and regulations of the RGUHS and Central Council of Homeopathy.
The department has also held him responsible for the misuse of office funds. Subsequently, he was asked to step down from his post both by the health department and RGUHS with immediate effect.
He was asked to submit an explanation within seven days of the receipt of the copy from the department, which he failed to do. He also escaped two inquiry committees where the findings stated various offences in educational administration, illegal decisions and mistreatment f staff. Dr Patil confirmed the development. “I will reply to all allegations against me when I receive an official communication,” he added.
