Nosodes and sarcodes (homeopathic remedies gained primarily from disease products respectively organs of human or animal origin) are groups of drugs which were added to the homeopathic Materia Medica in the 1830s. Most substances used in nosode or sarcode therapy have a long medical tradition, with some even going back to the pre-Christian period. My contribution first describes therapeutic practices that use these substances and then juxtaposes them with their use in the early days of homeopathic nosode and sarcode therapy. The investigation shows, on the one hand, that there are aspects common to both approaches that go far beyond the mere choice of substances. On the other hand, it demonstrates the effect the inclusion of human or animal body substances in the homeopathic Materia Medica has had on homeopathy, as their use is no longer in line with what is considered rational.
‘Nosodes’ (from the Greek nosos, disease) are biological preparations used in homeopathic medicine to prevent disease. The concept of nosodes as therapy was advanced by Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), the father of homeopathy.(3) Nosodes are a specific category of homeopathic treatment derived from an element of a disease or from diseased tissue, defined as “a homeopathically prepared remedy made from an infectious disease product either directly from the bacteria or virus, or less directly from a tissue purported to contain it”.(3) The preparation of a nosode involves a succession of serial dilutions of biological material, usually by factors of 100, which is then administered to prevent or treat a health disorder. Nosodes have been widely used in veterinary homeopathic medicine and are now being used therapeutically in humans.

The treatment of disease with extracts from animal organs, especially glands is called Organotherapy.[9] Organo-Therapy is more often written as organotherapy.[10] Organotherapy is the use of sarcodes to treat organs of weakness, associated with disease. In Greek, the term “Sarcode” means fleshy. Sarcodes come from humans or animals and are obtained from healthy endocrine or ductless glands or normal secretions of living human organs and lower animals. The secretions are mostly hormones.[3]
Sarcodes are the preparations made from the organ extract. They are potentized preparation from healthy tissues, organs and/or their secretion of humans and animals. This review briefly describes the sarcodes, their origin and preparations, properties and the clinical benefits to humans.
As defined by Devide Lowenfels‟ “sarcodes contains information of biological structure of an organ and by resonating the organ substance energetically its natural healing energy is stimulated. Thus removing toxins and optimizing organ function
Its functions in Body[3]
- Balances organs, glands or tissue activity
- Slows down accelerated organs, glands or tissue activity
- Stimulates sluggish organs, glands or tissue activity
- Slows down accelerated organs, glands or tissue activity
- Will up regulate and restore hypothyroid balance OR can down regulate the overall activity of the hyperthyroid gland (using thyroid hormone extract or Thyroidinum)
- In cases where organs are damaged due to autoimmune issues, organotherapy substitutes for the organ and accepts the autoimmune antibodies, leaving the organ to stimulate its own restoration
CHARACTERISTICS[16]
- Sarcodes belong to the less proved group of remedies.
- Sarcodes are mainly stated to be the organopathic drugs.
- All sarcodes are deep acting remedies.
- Deficient functioning or hyper functioning of organs.
- Symptoms are related to sources of preparation.
- Headache worse on waking up in the morning, throbbing with nausea and vomiting.
- Obstinate constipation.
- Complaints are aggravation due to intake of milk lac can, lac dul,
- Nervousness
- Profuse urination with increased thirst. So they can be used in diabetes
- Obesity,
- Malignancy, Tendency to over growth
