ABSRACT
Serum anguillar ichthyotoxin is a lesser-known but significant remedy in Homeopathy. It is derived from the serum of the European eel is primarily used for kidney and cardiovascular conditions. This remedy has gained attention due to its potential benefits in treating nephrotic syndrome, renal failure, and heart diseases, particularly when symptoms indicate severe kidney dysfunction secondary to cardiovascular distress.

INTRODUCTION
Serum anguillar ichthyotoxin belongs to a fish species has a long, smooth, cylindrical or ribbon-shaped body that is 0.6 meters long, snake-like, and nearly or completely scaleless. It also lacks pelvic fins.  Another name for the eel is ichthyotoxin.  The Greek word ichthys, which signifies fish, is the source of the term “ichthyotoxin.”  Ichthyotoxin, a haemolytic toxin found in eel blood and cutaneous glue, is very similar to adder poison.1 When heart disease progresses, the kidneys suddenly get damaged and their function is inhibited. Digitalis is helpless in these situations, but the Eel’s serum has ended the kidney blockage and produced a lot of diuresis.2

METHODOLOGY:
Collection and review of literature from various stalwarts like W Boericke, R Murphy, F Vermeulin and PN Verma.

PREPARATION
Blood drawn from the brachial artery is used to make Serum anguillar ichthyotoxin in Homeopathy. Eel serum is a yellowish to greenish-yellow, opalescent liquid that can be pink from mild haemolysis when centrifuged at 5,000 rpm for 15 minutes. Serum dilutions up to 3X are made using isotonic sodium chloride.  This approach minimizes any harmful effects of the raw material while guaranteeing that the medicine maintains its therapeutic qualities.3

  • Inactivity due to indifference and lack of will power and desire to lie down in spite of internal restlessness
  • Sensitiveness, disturbance from noises and odours causes nervousness and anger
  • Dullness: As if brain were paralysed, difficult in concentration, weakness of memory
  • Repression sexuality to devote themselves to spiritual development
  • Dreams of travelling, of black snakes, erotic dreams of naked, eager women
  • Appearance of menses relieves mental symptoms

Physical Generals:

  • Aversion to warm room
  • Restless legs; impossible to remain seated; must move
  • Lymphoedema – after operation on breast tumour

Key Indications:

  • A/F: Acute effects of cold or infection or intoxication
  • Acute nephritis, Sub-acute nephritis
  • To re-establish diuresis
  • Oliguria, anuria and albuminuria
  • Hypertension and oliguria without oedema
  • Cardiac uraemia: Mitral insufficiency, asystole with or without Oedema, dyspnoea and difficult urinary secretion
  • Heart diseases in cases of failure of compensation and impending asystole

CONCLUSION
Serum anguillar ichthyotoxin is a valuable Homeopathic remedy for kidney and cardiovascular diseases, especially when symptoms indicate severe dysfunction. Although more scientific research is needed, it remains a trusted choice among Homeopaths for managing conditions like nephritis, renal failure, and hypertension.
