The first Ayush Holistic Centre in the Kerala state will be inaugurated at Poonthura on Friday.
Ayush is short for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy and the centre will have all these medical systems under it. Health Minister V S Sivakumar inaugurated the centre at 11.30 am at a function presided over by Mayor K Chandrika.
The Ayush Holistic Centre is a joint initiative of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the Health Department. In the first phase, the centre will offer treatments under the Ayurveda, Siddha, Homoeopathy and Unani systems.
Several medical systems under one umbrella will enable the cross-referring of patients to the suitable treatment and also the patients will be able to pick and choose, Ayush Kerala Medical Association office-bearers told a press conference here. Additionally, such centres will also help the state to combat lifestyle diseases in an effective manner and help improve the mental and physical health of the patients, they said.
Initially, medical officers will be posted at the centre through the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)-Ayush. In-patient facilities will be enhanced gradually, the office-bearers said. There are also plans to open similar Ayush Holistic Centres across the state in the subsequent phases in a bid to promote Indian medical systems and make people aware of their importance and efficacy.[Source]
