It is a progressive disease in which symptoms worsen with time. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are the most common forms of COPD. In contrast to asthma, the limitation of airflow is poorly reversible and usually gets progressively worse over time. In each condition of chronic bronchitis and emphysema there is chronic obstruction of the flow of air through the airways and out of the lungs, and the obstruction is generally permanent and may be progressive over time.<\/li>\n<li>Today\u2019s economic burden and why it is the need of the hour &#8211; Worldwide, COPD is ranked as 4th leading cause of death and is predicted to become the 3rd leading cause of death by 2020. COPD is one of the leading causes of death in India and mortality rates are anticipated to increase by 160%.<\/li>\n<li>Management of COPD is suboptimal in allopathic medicine because there are very few effective therapies available.
