If homoeopathy PG students lose interest in dissertation due to lack of proper guidance, that is detrimental to the growth and development of homoeopathy.<\/p>\n<p><b>Definition<br \/>\n<\/b>Research is a process of discovery that aims to add, delete or modify the existing practices by way of observation, interpretation and explanation.<\/p>\n<p><b>Purpose of PG education\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Professional development \u2013 PG is not merely a theoretical or exam oriented study as BHMS. During BHMS we had exam every 6 months, with lot of assignments and record writings. But in PG we have two exams only in three years \u2013 enough time to acquire clinical knowledge and to develop as a professional.<\/li>\n<li>Human resource for academic structure \u2013 post graduation is the basic qualification for teaching posts in homoeopathy. So a PG student must be a good teacher and clinician.<\/li>\n<li>Research aptitude \u2013 sensitising PG students for a proper research, outcome is not important, but methodology should be correct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Difference between Thesis and Dissertation <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dissertation means a long essay on a particular subject \u2013 Broad<\/li>\n<li>Thesis means A long essay involving personal research &#8211; Highly focused on a specific issue &#8211; PhD<\/li>\n<li>So Post graduate work is called as Dissertation and not thesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-32048 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/evb9ktagfkv.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/make-mistakes-300x169.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1\" alt=\"make-mistakes\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evb9ktagfkv.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/make-mistakes-300x169.jpg?strip=all&amp;lossy=1&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/evb9ktagfkv.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/make-mistakes.jpg?strip=all&amp;lossy=1&amp;ssl=1 636w, https:\/\/evb9ktagfkv.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/make-mistakes.jpg?strip=all&amp;lossy=1&amp;w=384&amp;ssl=1 384w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Common Mistakes in PG Dissertation \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Objectives are not clear \u2013 some specific objectives should me mentioned. Action of homoeopathic remedies in diabetes mellitus is a broad topic, but the scope of homeopathic remedies in diabetic neuropathy, or sexual complaints of diabetes mellitus etc are some specific topics with clear-cut objectives.<\/li>\n<li>Cut and paste &#8211; Plagiarisms<\/li>\n<li>Non-correlation of tables and explained data \u2013 The items mentioned in tables, charts and graphs should be same as explained data beneath the tables and charts.<\/li>\n<li>Sample size \u2013 for a better result at least 30 cases or samples are must. Many PGs doing dissertation works with 7 t0 10 cases. That results in bias.<\/li>\n<li>Duration of study less than mentioned \u2013 Duration study should be date after the approval of synopsis and before the last date of submission to concerned guide.<\/li>\n<li>Lack of institutional\/ethical committee recommendations<\/li>\n<li>Methodology not clear \u2013 absence of a clear cut methodology<\/li>\n<li>Aims and Objectives do not match conclusions. For example \u2013 Aim\/Objective mentioned as \u201cAction of Syzigium 30 in diabetes mellitus\u201d, but in conclusion \u201c Syzigium is a good remedy for diabetes mellitus\u201d. It should match.<\/li>\n<li>Observations repeated in summary<\/li>\n<li>List of abbreviations \u2013 should be of an internationally accepted standards.<\/li>\n<li>Tables and figures are not self-explanatory \u2013 the examiner or evaluator must get a clear idea on looking at charts or diagrams even without reading the explanations given below.<\/li>\n<li>Reference \u2013 nationally or internationally accepted format only.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Other Errors\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Margins required are not correct.<\/li>\n<li>Page numbers do not correspond to the entries in the Table of Contents, List of Tables, List of Figures, and\/or any other list included in the document.<\/li>\n<li>Subheadings are not consistently formatted by the student throughout the document.<\/li>\n<li>Subheadings are not formatted consistently based on the weight of each item in the Table of Contents.<\/li>\n<li>Landscaped pages in the text have the page number in the incorrect spot.<\/li>\n<li>While paying attention to research, the grammar and flow of the document may be overlooked.<\/li>\n<li>The language used may not be according to the accepted standard. Further, the style should be academic and clear<\/li>\n<li>Universities prescribe certain formatting styles, as to the type and size of font, or even the paper used. These can be overlooked if the scholar is not cautious enough.<\/li>\n<li>The resources can often be outdated, irrelevant or invalid. Hence they must be checked before being used for the dissertation<\/li>\n<li>Use of internet sources to a noticeable extent is also a serious mistake. These areas are<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Title<\/li>\n<li>Summary (Abstract)<\/li>\n<li>Introduction<\/li>\n<li>Conclusion<\/li>\n<li>Reference format<\/li>\n<li>Tables and figures<\/li>\n<li>Methodology<\/li>\n<li>Ethical Issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Basic structure of introduction<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First para : Introduction to the subject<\/li>\n<li>Next few paragraphs : lacunae and controversies about the subject<\/li>\n<li>Last para : \u201cThere for this study was done with the intention of&#8230;.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Remember\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tables should be in one page<\/li>\n<li>For tables &#8211; heading should be above<\/li>\n<li>For pictures &#8211; heading should be below<\/li>\n<li>Tables should be simple and self-contained but require no further explanation.<\/li>\n<li>Data shown in a Table should not be reiterated in sentences within the text<\/li>\n<li>Discussion is the heart of research\u00a0 &#8211; require several draft<\/li>\n<li>Result -attracts the attention of most readers<\/li>\n<li>Materials and Methods \u2013 easiest to write, past tense<\/li>\n<li>Introduction is the very difficult section &#8211; 1 or 2 pages, lacunae in current knowledge, primary goal of this study that seeks to address the problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Synopsis &#8211; Before testing the hypothesis- Dissertation \u2013 after testing<\/p>\n<p><b>Synopsis of dissertation<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>PG student shall submit synopsis within six months of her \/ his admission.<\/li>\n<li>Synopsis shall be signed by the student, approved by the guide, and counter signed by HOD and Principal before sending to University for approval.<\/li>\n<li>Ethics committee clearance is mandatory<\/li>\n<li>Each synopsis shall be scrutinized by the university subject expert.<\/li>\n<li>Approved synopsis shall be published in the university website and communicated to concerned colleges along with student ID number.<\/li>\n<li>Non-accepted synopsis shall send back to colleges for modification by giving maximum 30 days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Student Guide ratio shall be strictly maintained as of CCH instructions and guide shall be a recognized post graduate teacher as per the university and statutory council norms.<\/p>\n<p>Submission of synopsis of dissertation shall be accepted by the university only through proper channel<\/p>\n<p>Provision for change of title and guide is there but not easy since the approved guides are less in number.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Period of study<\/strong> \u2013 mention a date in your dissertation after the approval by the university.<\/p>\n<p><b>Submission of dissertation<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each student shall submit two\/ three hard copies and one soft copy (CD) of approved dissertation through proper channel to the university before the stipulated date.<\/li>\n<li>Dissertation shall be submitted six months prior to the conduct of University examinations.<\/li>\n<li>No dissertation shall be accepted by the university after the stipulated date on any grounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluation of dissertation in many universities\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Each dissertation shall send to two outside state experts and one university expert for evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>If two evaluators out of three are accepted the dissertation, the university shall consider the dissertation is accepted and the student is eligible for writing the university examination.<\/p>\n<p>If two experts, accepted the dissertation with modifications, the dissertation shall send back to the student for modification as per the experts\u2019 remarks, by giving maximum 45 days.
