Richard Hughes<\/b> (1836-1902)
\n<\/span>He actively cooperated with Dr. Timothy Field Allen to compile his \u2018Encyclopedia of<\/i> pure materia medica\u2019. Rendered immeasurable aid to Dr.\u00a0Robert Ellis Dudgeon\u00a0in translating\u00a0Samuel Hahnemann\u2019s \u2018The Materia Medica Pura<\/i> into English. In 1889 he was appointed an Editor of the \u2018British Journal of Homeopathy<\/i>\u00a0 <\/span>and continued in that capacity until his demise. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>He contributed to the\u00a0American Institute of Homeopathy\u00a0Proceeding<\/i> and Transactions <\/i>of the\u00a0Homeopathic Medical Society of the State of New York, the\u00a0Hahnemannian Monthly, <\/i>and\u00a0many other\u00a0pamphlets<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0journals.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1876, Dr. Hughes was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Organization of the International Congress of the Homoeopathic Physicians in Philadelphia.<\/span><\/p>\n

PREFACE TO SIXTH EDITION
\n<\/span>It contains a review of an eminent practitioner\u00a0 <\/span>which says that the book is in lecture form,in a pleasantly personal fashion,which contains history of the plant or mineral , its use or abuse,preparation,and action on proving,and the narration gives an image about the drug to the reader even to layman.\u201dFirst 105 pages are about sources of materia medica, general principle of drug action, posology etc .(September\u00a0 <\/span>1893) <\/span><\/p>\n

PREFACE TO 4<\/span>TH<\/sup><\/span> EDITION
\n<\/span>Gives details about different editions.first edition was communicated in the form of letters to an inquiring friend.The book is based on original provings and french german literature.Dr hughes delivered a course on lectures n homoeopathic materia medica at British homoeopathic society in London, in 1875 and 76\u00a0 <\/span>.fourth edition contains the same lectures. Each lecture contains\u00a0 <\/span>the source , preparation\u00a0 <\/span>and drug pathogenesis.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1877 London school\u00a0 <\/span>of homoeopathy was founded and Dr Hughes was appointed to fill the chair of materia medica and therapeutics there and his manual became a textbook of the\u00a0 <\/span>course, and so he \u00a0 <\/span>had the opportunity to add improvements.In\u00a0 <\/span>the\u00a0 <\/span>fourth edition supplimentary lecture on some minor and recently introduced medicines are appended. And a few which were added to the minor category in the former edition were added to the main series. New section appeared for picric\u00a0 <\/span>acid, salycilic acid , chlorine\u00a0 <\/span>and its derivatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following upon the introductory lecture Will be found six new ones. The two on the sources of the Homoeopathic Materia Medica Those on the general principles of drug-action. \u00a0 <\/span>which bear the same relation to the lectures that Dr HUGHES delivered at the London Homoeopathic Hospital in 1877 which appeared in\u00a0 <\/span>Monthly Homoeopathic Review of that year. <\/span><\/p>\n

That entitled ” HOMOEOPATHY WHAT IT IS \u201c( a similar reproduction of the paper on ” The Two Homoeopathies which Dr Hughes presented at the British Homoeopathic Congress held at Liverpool in 1877.) that on ” HOMOEOPATHIC POSOLOGY \u201c(already appeared in the British Journal of Homoeopathy for January, 1879).<\/span><\/p>\n
