It is a symptom seen in various psychiatric condition like bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder. Mania can affect one\u2019s ability to work , to do day to day activities over a certain period of time.<\/p>\n<p>This condition can be managed by Homoeopathic medicines. There are various repertories which mention about the rubric mania one such repertory is Kent\u2019s repertory of the Homoeopathic Materia Medica.<\/p>\n<p>In Kent\u2019s repertory we find direct rubric mania in the chapter mind. It has first , second and third grade remedies .We need to differentiate remedies given under rubric\u00a0 mania with Materia medica knowledge to arrive at a right prescription.<\/p>\n<p>In this article an attempt has been made to differentiate the first grade remedies of the rubric Mania from Kent\u2019s repertory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEYWORDS<\/strong>: &#8211; Mania, Kent\u2019s Repertory, Mind , Mental disorder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INTRODUCTION<br \/>\n<\/strong>Mania is a state of elevated energy, mood &amp; behaviour. It is a symptom, seen in patient with Bipolar disorder, Schizo affective disorder and also in patients who are under certain medications.<\/p>\n<p>The Etymology of Mania-Ancient Greck Mania (mania) &#8211; Madness, frenzy<\/p>\n<p>Mania- It is a psychological condition that causes a person to experience unreasonable euphoria , very intense moods , hyperactivity and delusion,<\/p>\n<p>CAUSES<\/p>\n<p>It can be caused by combination of Genetic, Chemical and Environmental factors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Family History of mania or mental illness like Bipolar disorder.<\/li>\n<li>Hormonal \/ chemical imbalance is the brain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(adrenaline, serotonin, dopamine)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mental health conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bipolar, schizo affective, Postpartum psychosis<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neurological Conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Brain injury, tumour, stroke, encephalitis, dementia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Insomnia<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol abuse<\/li>\n<li>Recreational drug abuse<\/li>\n<li>Side effects a medications<\/li>\n<li>Traumatic life event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mania can be presented in 3 different Stages:-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Hypomania-Stage 1<\/p>\n<p>it is a milder form than other two stages.<\/p>\n<p>It may not be recognized as a symptom by those around the person experiencing it. It affects sleep and activity and may cause increased impulsivity.<\/p>\n<p>2.Acute mania-Stage 2<\/p>\n<p>Patient acts in an inappropriate and impulsive manner<\/p>\n<p>Increased energy , little to no sleep , talks hastily and loquacious jumping from one subject to another.<\/p>\n<p>Not fully aware of reality<\/p>\n<p>3.Delirious mania-Stage 3<\/p>\n<p>Most severe of the three stages.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms are similar to mania but with addition of delirium.<\/p>\n<p>Combination of mania and psychosis<\/p>\n<p>Patients need hospitalization<\/p>\n<p>The hallmark of mania incudes rapid speech, increased talkativeness, crowding of thoughts , unable to focus, reduced sleep and psychomotor agitation .<\/p>\n<p>The rubric Mania contains 10 first grade remedies<\/p>\n<p><strong>They are as follows-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arsenic album<\/li>\n<li>Belladona<\/li>\n<li>Mercurius<\/li>\n<li>Hyoscyamus<\/li>\n<li>Nux Vomica<\/li>\n<li>Kali Bromatum<\/li>\n<li>Kali Chloricum<\/li>\n<li>Stramonium<\/li>\n<li>Veratrum album<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1) ARSENIC ALBUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The mania of arsenic album is intermingled with fear , anxiety , impulses , suicidal inclinations , sudden freaks .<\/li>\n<li>The states of anxiety &amp; restlessness go towards the cadaveric aspect, towards death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2) BELLADONA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acute mania &#8211; patient will bite the spoon, will bark like a dog, will do all sorts of violent thing, even jump out of the window.<\/li>\n<li>All sorts of delusions &amp; hallucinations are mingled with acute mania, ghosts, horrid monsters, strange things and deformed subjects.<\/li>\n<li>Violence, Rage, excitement well be seen in mania.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3) HYOSCYAMUS <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passive mania, does not go into violence.<\/li>\n<li>More likely to be suicidal than committing a murder.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes the patient will talk &amp; prattle, sometimes sit &amp; say nothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4) KALI BROMATUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Suicidal mania with trembling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5) KALI CHLORICUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liveliness then ill humour<\/li>\n<li>Ill humoured , anxious.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6) LYCOPODIUM CLAVATUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excessively merry and laugh at simplest things.<\/li>\n<li>A condition of insanity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7) MERCURIUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hastiness ;a hurried restless anxious disposition .<\/li>\n<li>Desire to kill people contradicting her. Impulse to commit suicide , sudden anger with impulse to do violence .<\/li>\n<li>Fearful that she will lose her reason and carry the impulse out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>8)NUX VOMICA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversensitiveness ,touchy, irritable.<\/li>\n<li>They are never contended, never satisfied disturbed by their surroundings and they become irritable , so that they want to tear things, to scold.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9)\u00a0 STRAMONIUM <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is useful in mania that has existed for sometime ;attacks of mania coming on in paroxysms, appearing with more or less suddenness .<\/li>\n<li>The mind is in uproar ;cursing , tearing the clothes , violent speech , frenzy , erotomania , exposing of the person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10)\u00a0 VERATRUM ALBUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mania with desire to cut and tear everything, especially the clothes, with lewdness and lascivious talks .<\/li>\n<li>Puerperal mania and convulsions with violent cerebral congestion.<\/li>\n<li>She is inconsolable over a fancied misfortune, runs around the room howling and screaming or sits brooding, wailing and weeping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CONCLUSION<br \/>\n<\/strong>Mind chapter of Kent\u2019s repertory is full of rubrics useful for various psychiatric symptoms and condition.
