Antidoting refers to the blocking, or negation, or reversal of the positive action of a remedy. When the first prescription create severe aggravation, life threatening situation and disobey the \u201cHering\u2019s Law of Cure\u201d, then it is consider. In this paper we discuss in which situation we can antidote the first prescription.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keywords<\/strong> : Prescription, antidote, medicine, homoeopathy, aggravation, Hearing\u2019s law of cure<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definition:<\/strong><br \/>\nLiterally the antidote meaning is something that relieves, prevents, or counteract. In homoeopathy The first Prescription is the prescription, which is given after proper case taking and evaluation of the symptoms. Hence, the question of antidoting the first Prescription arise, when the medicine prescribe for the first time after a proper case taking, has bring fourth some unwanted changes on the human\u2019s derange Vital Economy which is not desired. In this condition we need to antidote the remedy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction<br \/>\n<\/strong>Homeopathic remedies work in a vibrational manner on the body\/mind. Imagine striking a note on a piano \u2014 this is the action of the remedy! Now imagine pushing the damper pedal, or drowning out the note with dissonant chords \u2014 this is what happens with antidoting. Antidoting refers to the blocking, or negation, or reversal of the positive action of a remedy. Over the past several years experience has shown that antidoting is not as common as previously thought, and that many people can be exposed to potential antidotes with no weakening of the healing power of the remedy. However, it is wise to avoid the following substances, especially for the first few weeks of treatment, to be sure that your remedy is given full scope of action.<\/p>\n<p>Antidote to the first prescription: When the first prescription create severe aggravation, life threatening situation and disobey the \u201cHering\u2019s Law of Cure\u201d, then it is consider. If the administration of the First Prescription, result in appearance of the new symptoms, not of mild but violent \u2013 life threatening in nature, or with general worsening of the patient; it is to be Antidote immediately.<\/p>\n<p>The new symptoms should be examined, whether they belong \u2013 to the Pathogenesis of the medicine, or to the Progress of the Disease, and the new such symptoms has never experienced by the patient, before. These worsening indicate the selection of the previous medicine for the First Prescription was either wrong or partially correct or too high in potency. In this situation Antidote must be done by as per needs; Specific Antidotal Medicine, like Acet. acid antidote Amyl. nit.; General Antidotal Medicine, like Camphor for all Vegetable remedies; Incompatible Medicine, like Causticum and Phosphorus; Low potency of the previous Medicine; or High potency of the previous Medicine, (vice-versa) etc.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why are we talking about \u201cantidoting\u201d in relation to homeopathy?<\/li>\n<li>What does this mean that a patient or a user of remedies?!<\/li>\n<li>What does it mean at all??<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So let\u2019s start out with a dictionary definition of the word \u201cantidote\u201d.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A medicine or other remedy for counteracting the effects of poison, disease, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Something that prevents or counteracts injurious or unwanted effects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are two occasions I can think of where the question of antidoting might come up.<\/p>\n<p>The first is when your homeopathic physician has told you how to take your remedy and what to do or not to do in the process. Perhaps you think you didn\u2019t get it quite right and you\u2019re afraid that you\u2019ve \u201cantidoted\u201d or stopped your remedy working.<\/p>\n<p>The second is where you may suffer a significant level of aggravation (worsening of current symptoms or old symptoms coming back strongly) and your homeopath wants to \u201cantidote\u201d the remedy you have just taken.<\/p>\n<p>What the first question is really asking is, will my remedy stop working if I drink coffee or chamomile tea, clean my teeth with peppermint toothpaste or use essential oils. These are all the things that many practitioners warn their patients about being an issue with homeopathic remedies.<\/p>\n<p>The second question is asking whether it is possible to intentionally counteract the action of a homeopathic remedy due to an aggravation, i.e. stop it working or antidote it.<\/p>\n<p>Miranda Castro, who wrote \u201cThe Complete Homeopathy Guide\u201d, had a beautiful story on her website some years ago, which she repeated when I ran a course with her recently. I always trot it out at my home prescriber workshops as an example of this myth.<\/p>\n<p>Miranda said that at one time she was really dogmatic about patients antidoting their remedies, so doing things that might stop the remedy working. She lectured each patient about what they couldn\u2019t eat, drink or do. Berated them that they had broken the rules if her prescription didn\u2019t work and generally created a barrier in their relationship, something which is so important to homeopathic treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what we need to consider is how a remedy works.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>My explanation is always that the remedy stimulates the body to work a little harder to overcome the symptoms and bring the system back to balance. <\/em>This is an energetic process which will keep going unless interrupted. It\u2019s not a medicinal process.<\/p>\n<p>I have always imagined this energetic process, the action of a homeopathic remedy, like the cue hitting the billiard ball. Once you\u2019ve hit the ball, depending on how hard, it will continue in the direction it is going until it either goes into the pocket \u2013 bingo! problem solved \u2013 or hits the cushion. If it hits the cushion \u2013 which is really not very cushiony because it continues at the same momentum, but in a different direction \u2013 we still have movement but not where we were aiming. So,<\/p>\n<p>this is potentially a remedy that is close to correct, but not close enough, because it didn\u2019t quite make the pocket. There is some change but it\u2019s not quite there.<\/p>\n<p>At this point it would be useful to look at what the definitions at the beginning mean in terms of homeopathy. Definition 1, \u201ca medicine or other remedy for counteracting the effects of poison, disease, etc\u201d, is actually how we would define what a remedy does each time we take it, although I prefer the term \u201credirects the energy\u201d to \u201ccounteract\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We are not trying to <em>suppress <\/em>the body\u2019s attempts to tell us there is a problem, which is what happens when we take \u201canti-biotics\u201d or \u201canti-pyretics\u201d (for fever) or \u201canti-inflammatories\u201d. We are <em>redirecting <\/em>or encouraging the energy to rebalance the system, to bring health, rather than \u201cfighting\u201d or \u201csuppressing\u201d the symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So are we really antidoting or counteracting something?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even if someone has an aggravation from a remedy and a practitioner decides to give another remedy to \u201cantidote\u201d the first remedy, what is really happening is that the energy is being redirected to bring a return to health. Semantics perhaps!!<\/p>\n<p>I would say that what happens more often is that a patient resonates with a particular remedy \u2013 they are in a particular space at the time the remedy is prescribed and the remedy and the patient resonate well with each other. Because the remedy is aimed right at the pocket (the resonance is right) then bingo! the remedy hits the spot and we have improvement.<\/p>\n<p>If something happens to interrupt this, and this is more often a trauma, an upset at work, a vaccination, an accident, than a cup of coffee, then the resonance of the patient changes and it is actually their own system that stops the forward action of the remedy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is not, however, the antidoting of a remedy, this is life!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Things have changed, the energy of the patient has changed \u2013 maybe they are now grieving or mortified or sick \u2013 and a different remedy\/energy is required. The action of the remedy is interrupted or changed, but it\u2019s not \u201cantidoted\u201d because we are talking about energy. We are talking about forward action, change of direction, balance.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, I did have one patient who told me they had walked past a coffee shop, smelt the coffee roasting and their remedy no longer worked. This actually tells me more about the energy of the patient and potentially the remedies likely to be required. It shows an over-sensitivity on the mental\/emotional level, as much as sensitivity to interruption by outside influences.<\/p>\n<p>So if you are an extremely sensitive patient (as in the example above) and your homeopath tends to prescribe only single doses and then makes you wait for a while to see what happens, you could interrupt the action of the remedy by thought, as much as deed. This is much more likely to be something on the mental\/emotional level than the physical, although it\u2019s always possible. It really needs to be something energetic to interrupt the action of a remedy and while coffee or eucalyptus are energetic to some degree, they may not have sufficient energy except in the over-sensitives.<\/p>\n<p>When we explain how to take a remedy, we often say to take 10 or 15 minutes away from eating, drinking or cleaning your teeth and this is to give the remedy the best chance to act without interference. Usually a good remedy will do this whatever!<\/p>\n<p>There are some lovely stories from Hahnemann\u2019s time of women being told to put Nux Vomica in the beer of their alcoholic husbands and seeing improvement in their behaviour!! Certainly, I have parents put their child\u2019s remedy in milk or even juice and their dog\u2019s remedy in its food. Often this is without even realising this is not what we usually recommend, but it still works.<\/p>\n<p>What I always say is, if it\u2019s all too hard to do the 10 or 15 minute space, just give the remedy!! In acute situations where you are giving several doses or where you are taking a daily dose of your constitutional remedy, it often doesn\u2019t matter. You keep restimulating the system into action each time you take your remedy anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s not overthink it, let\u2019s just always remember that homeopathy is about energy not physical substance like a pharmaceutical product (apart from the nano-particles which are too teeny to find in the lab) and the main interrupters of the action of a remedy are <em>more likely <\/em>to be emotional upsets than coffee, chamomile or peppermint!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<br \/>\n<\/strong>The remedy must be antidoted when there appear lots of new symptoms after the first prescription. But before antidoting, the case must be restudied and it is to be confirmed whether patient has experienced these new symptoms earlier in life. If old symptoms are appearing, better to wait than to antidote, as gradually these new symptoms may disappear. In case the new symptoms are very disturbing and don\u2019t belong to pathogenesis of the remedy or old symptoms, it is better to antidote and take the case again, prescribing on any new and original symptoms. If the symptoms belong to the pathogenesis of the medicine, wait and watch, as long as the symptoms are not very disturbing. These symptoms may pass away and after that you can retake the case and select the more correct simillimum..<\/p>\n<p>Actually, the Qualities of a Classical Homoeopathic physician depend upon the commend \u2013 the confident on the subjects of Organon of Medicine and Homoeopathic Philosophy \u2026 First Prescription is very easy to select but antidoting the first presceiption is totally depend upon the situation of the patient , applied practical knowledge of Organon of Medicine and Homoeopathic Philosophy.
